Teach it Tuesday - creative portraits.

Last month my son came into my office wearing his dinosaur costume and I asked him if I could take his picture. I had this idea of making him stomp around a city skyline ala Godzilla and grabbed these frames -

I spent a couple of hours creating this image - I hated it.

So last week I had the huge pleasure of shooting head shots for City councilwoman Latanya Peterson - her website. We picked the skyline of Jacksonville as the backdrop and I had this awesome idea -

The above photo was created from a series of photographs... which you can see below:

Sometimes, the key is to just stick with a photo until all of the pieces are ready to come together.

Yoga sesh.

Over the last couple of years I have accrued a very neat collection of amazing environmental portraits while working with Kate and the girls over at the Bikram Studio here in St. Augustine.

A couple of weeks ago Kate sent me a note and told me she was in the process of updating her website and wanted to use some of our favorite images... after spending a few hours going through and pulling out the ones that fit her criteria I decided it would be a good time to share a few of them here.

I hope you guys can see the tremendous beauty and determination shown by these very strong and flexible yogis. I am looking forward to adding some more to this collection when summer finally makes an appearance.

Teach it Tuesday - the moment after the moment.

A little known trick that I use in my portrait and wedding photography is the "secret moment". It is one of my favorite things and a lot of people miss it. It is the very moment that occurs after an image is taken. That split second after the shutter when your subject thinks the photo has been taken and their guards drops down... what often shows through in that instant is something different and often amazing.

Here is a great portrait of my friends Liz, Joey and Stacey.

And this is the moment right after...

To me, they are both good photos but the second photo captures something that I love... emotion, interaction, and best of all...honesty.
